Receipt scanning in Shoplix: stop typing prices and weights in the store
You no longer need to guess exact weights at home, type grams at the produce scale, or enter real prices with a basket in your hand. Add items to your list by name alone, shop hands-free, and after checkout snap a photo of your paper receipt — or a screenshot of your digital receipt. Shoplix reconciles real prices, exact quantities, and weights automatically.

1. Why typing weights and prices in the store aisle slows you down
We built spending statistics in Shoplix so households can see where their grocery budget actually goes without maintaining spreadsheets. When you grab three items at a corner shop, price autofill from your last purchase is effortless. But on a 25-item weekly supermarket run, manual in-store entry hits three real-world snags:
- You can’t know exact weights in advance. At home, you add “Apples”, “Chicken breast”, or “Gouda” to the list. You have no idea whether the bag you pick up will weigh
0.68 kgor1.34 kguntil it hits the scale. - Typing in the aisle is high-friction. Standing in the aisle with a basket to open each item, type exact weights from scale stickers, and enter shelf prices slows down the whole trip.
- Impulse buys go unrecorded. If you grab dark chocolate, coffee, or a snack that wasn’t on the list, nobody wants to type it into the list just to check it off for the budget — leaving gaps in your monthly spending stats.
That is why we added smart receipt scanning & reconciliation to Shoplix — turning a quick photo or screenshot after checkout into complete, item-level price and quantity data.
2. The faster workflow: shop hands-free, scan after checkout
With receipt scanning, planning and shopping stay completely friction-free:
- At home — skip the quantities. Add items to your list by name alone (by typing or voice). When you add a familiar product, Shoplix shows its last known price right on the card as a reference without copying over last week’s weight or quantity.
- In the store — one-tap check-offs. Just tap the cart icon as items go into your basket, without opening the price or quantity editor. In a rush? You don’t even have to check everything off — the receipt scan will mark remaining items bought for you.
- After checkout — paper photo or digital screenshot. Open the list’s More menu (⋮ → Scan receipt) or open List History → receipt icon in the top bar and add 1 to 5 images:
- Paper receipt: snap a photo with your camera. If the receipt is long, photograph it in 2–5 overlapping sections — Shoplix stitches them together without duplicating overlapping lines.
- Digital receipt: take 1–5 screenshots of the e-receipt in your supermarket app, delivery app, or mobile banking app and pick them from your gallery.
3. How smart receipt reconciliation works
Unlike standalone receipt scanners that dump raw OCR text into a separate ledger, Shoplix reconciles the receipt directly against your active shopping list and that day’s purchase history. If the cashier scanned two identical items as separate lines on the receipt, Shoplix automatically combines them into one entry with the total quantity and price.
Before anything is saved, the Receipt reconciliation screen organizes every item on the receipt into three clear sections:
- Update prices in History: Items you already checked off in the store on the receipt’s day are matched automatically and updated with their exact weight, quantity, and checkout price — showing the change right on the card (e.g.,
).1 kg→ 1.34 kg •$2.50→ $3.35 - Mark as bought from list: Items still sitting on your active list that appear on the receipt are automatically checked off as bought with their exact price and quantity filled in.
- Add to History (unplanned): Extra purchases from the receipt that weren’t on your list are added directly to your purchase history in the right category — keeping your monthly spending analytics complete without cluttering your active list.
4. Clean catalog names & verified receipt totals
The biggest flaw in traditional receipt-scanning apps is cryptic thermal-printer abbreviations. If one store prints ORG MILK 2.5% PET 1L and another prints FARM DAIRY MILK 2.6%, a naive scanner creates two messy product entries and fragments your price history.
Shoplix solves this with catalog-aware reconciliation and full pre-apply control:
- Automatic linking to your clean catalog: Abbreviated receipt lines link directly to the clean product name on your list (“Milk”), keeping your per-product spending and normalized price history unified.
- One-tap name switching: Tap any row on the review screen to switch between “Catalog / list” (your clean short name) and “Name on receipt” (the full detailed name from the receipt), or type a custom name with autocomplete from your catalog.
- Re-link, merge, or split lines: Picked a different cheese than the one on your list? Re-link the receipt line to any active or history item, unlink it, merge two receipt lines together, or split an aggregated line back into individual rows.
- “Total matches” verification: At the top of the screen, Shoplix compares the Selected total against the printed Receipt total. A green “✓ Total matches” badge confirms every weight and price was captured to the cent. Bought non-food items you want to exclude from your grocery stats? Just uncheck them before applying.

7. Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Can I scan digital receipts from supermarket or banking apps?
Yes. Take 1–5 screenshots of a digital receipt from your store app, grocery delivery service, or banking app and pick them via the Gallery button. Shoplix extracts items, weights, quantities, and the total just like from a paper receipt.
How do I scan a long paper receipt from a big weekly shop?
Don’t step back and take one blurry, zoomed-out photo. Photograph the receipt in 2 to 5 overlapping sections — Shoplix automatically stitches the parts together and deduplicates overlapping lines.
Do I need to enter item quantities or prices before or during shopping?
No. Just add item names to your list. When you scan the receipt afterwards, Shoplix fills in the exact weight, quantity, and actual checkout price.
Will cryptic receipt abbreviations mess up my product statistics?
No. Shoplix matches abbreviated receipt lines to the clean product names in your list and catalog (such as “Milk”) so your spending stats and price history stay unified. You can also toggle between the catalog name and the detailed receipt name with one tap before applying.
What are the receipt scanning limits on the Free and Premium plans?
The free tier includes 10 receipt scans per month (enough for 2–3 big weekly shops every month), and Shoplix Premium includes up to 150 receipt scans per month. The counter resets on the 1st of each month.
